First Look:Malarvadi Arts Club

nikhimenon@gmail.com

In a previous post,we had lamented about the dearth of fresh, energetic stories in Malayalam. It seems that all is not lost yet for Malayalam Cinema. An upcoming movie titled ‘Malarvadi  Arts Club’ directed by Vineeth Srinivasan and produced by actor Dileep(may be as an apology for the horrendous movies that he has been giving us of  late) definitely shows some promise.Malarvadi has the potential to become this year’s big monsoon winner since malayalees are ready to accept even anything half decent, in these days of , Thanthoni s and Pramani s.With a fresh lead cast ably supported by some of the  veterans in the field like Nedumudi Venu,Jagathy Sreekumar and Salim Kumar the movie is tentatively scheduled for a July release.
The music of the movie came out two days back (composed by Shaan Rehman, the man behind last year’s successful album,Coffee at MG Road and the Mammooty film,‘Ee Pattanathil Bhootham’).I must admit that they sound really fresh and youthful with some genuinely funny lyrics(for instance, the Kashmala track),unlike the cut and copy ones ditched out by the National award winner(thankfully not for his tunes) M.G.Sreekumar for  Vineeth’s dad’s big movie with Mohanlal,’Oru Naal Varum’.In his blog,Vineeth admits that he has found inspiration for his debut movie in the popular American show,Friends and promises that his movie would be an entertaining one.
Let’s hope that the movie turns out to be as good as its promos.
